Yesterday I started a new secondment, the beat crimes department.
I have been posted here for the remainder of my probation period and a few months more!
That means, no more 999 calls, no more domestic incidences and no more standing on crime scenes till my toes drop off. Oh yea!
I have a desk, a telephone and a fax machine! I even have a computer.
Later I will be getting a filling cabinet, which I think is a sign of the paper work to come!
I also found the coffee maker and toaster!
I may stay here a while!
Once a diary of the wild eye adventures of a new police officer, then the new eyes while a Detective and now a Detective Sergeant on a national unit, still seeing the same faces.

Probation is 104 weeks ! Two full years from date of appointment and includes the inital 20 weeks training and 10 week street duties course.
Of course even this has changed since I have joined ! ( The ever chaning met ! )
As for what the beat crimes department does ( I am guessing my the work load screened into me to investigate its Criminal damage common assaults, Thefts, ABH and lower drug offences.
I belive it harkens back to the days of a police "Beat" and you have beat officers who patrol an area designated to them and so build a relationship with the community. Some thing I though all police do, but it seems hasnt been done in a while so it is getting back to the roots of tradional british policing !
Yes the helmet does look good does it not ! amazingly its also called a beat helmet !
Good to see the've finally issued you with your "police equipment". Don't forget to check out Staples.
